 STEVE LYMAN ~ HEAD COACH 

Coach Lyman was a Monsignor Farrell HS three-time Varsity letterman and a three year starter as a close defenseman. Coach Lyman was named the Defensive Player of the Year two times, and was also a two-time First Team CHSAA and All Metropolitan Playoff Tournament Team selection. Coach Lyman continued his career playing for NCAA Division I Wagner College as a close defenseman and as a defensive midfielder where he served as captain for two years. Coach Lyman then returned to Monsignor Farrell HS as the Varsity Assistant Coach for three years followed by 12 years of Varsity Head Coach. Coach Lyman has over 100 Head Coaching wins and has lead his Farrell Lions to 11 Staten Island Shootout Championships and a CHSAA City Championship in 2012, when he was also named CHSAA Coach of the Year.

MATT CAPASSO ~ ASSISTANT COACH 

Coach Capasso is a two-time Staten Island Lacrosse All Star and a three time Msgr. Farrell HS letterman. He was named offensive player of the year twice and was a two time First Team CHSAA selection. Although he did not choose to play in college, Coach Capasso was recruited to C.W. Post & Manhattanville College. Coach Capasso returned to Msgr. Farrell as a assistant coach for the Junior Varsity, but was asked to bring his offensive coaching skills to the Varsity, where he has been for the past 7 years. He played a large roll in helping Msgr. Farrell win several Staten Island Shootouts and its second CHSAA City Championship. Coach Capasso brings his offensive talents along with his knowledge and teaching experience to the Staten Island Lacrosse staff. Along with his coaching duties with our College Showcase Tournament Team, Coach Capasso  works in the development of all our athletes, from our beginner to the most advanced, during indoor/outdoor camps and seasonal leagues.

CHRIS GERLACH ~ ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Gerlach brings 14 years of coaching experience to Staten Island Lacrosse. Coach Gerlach started coaching at the Atlantic Club in Manasquan, NJ, and coached for both Trilogy Lacrosse and Five Boro Lacrosse. He is now an Assistant Coach at Curtis HS. Coach Gerlach was an All Conference player at while attending Madison High School in New Jersey. After graduating Madison, he played for NCAA Division I Wagner College where he was a 4 year starter and a two-time Team MVP. In 2001, he led the nation in saves and was 15th overall in save percentage. His 290 saves in 2001 is currently the 4th most in NCAA Division I history and his career average of 19.27 saves per game is 2nd in NCAA Division I history.

 

BRIAN PALMA ~ ASSISTANT COACH

An original member of the first ever Curtis High School lacrosse team in 1998, Coach Palma instantly fell in love with the game despite having no prior experience. Upon graduation he returned to Curtis HS as an assistant coach eventually earning a promotion to offensive coordinator. After seven years, he moved to New Dorp HS where he maintained his role as offensive coordinator helping guide the Cougars to the 2009 PSAL City Championship and three city championship game appearances overall. In 2016, he made his final stop in his coaching career taking over as the Head Coach of the St. Joseph by the Sea Lacrosse program. There, he took over a winless program the year prior, and in 4 years turned the program into a consistent threat in the NYC Catholic B division culminating in a New York City Catholic League  Championship in 2019.
